The Caves Fun Committee

A Focus on Fun, Community and One Another

January 10 2022

Making award-winning Blue cheese is always our priority, but at Caves of Faribault, we take time to focus on our workforce and our community as well.  A dedicated group of employees, aptly dubbed the “Caves Fun Committee,” (or the “CFC” as we like to call it) makes sure these important aspects are not forgotten, designing activities and events that infuse fun and purpose into the regular work day.

Giving Back

Holiday party planning isn’t the Committee’s only duty (though they did throw a great one, complete with contests, prizes, gifts and great food!).  This year, the CFC turned its focus to giving back to the city of Faribault, who has always been a huge supporter of our business.  We teamed up with Community Action Center of Faribault to collect food for their Free Food Market.

The CFC ran a food drive to collect non-perishable food for the market.  In order to collect as much as possible, Rueben (plant manager), Courtney (assistant plant manager), and Francisco (production supervisor & lead cheesemaker) all agreed to put themselves on the line all in the name of good fun!  The employee with the fullest box was in for quite the consequence.  If Rueben’s box collected the most food, he’d get a pie to the face.  If Courtney’s box collected the most food, she’d have to have to dye her hair electric blue.  And if Francisco collected the most food, he would have to shave his goatee.  By the looks of these boxes, it looks like Francisco is starting off 2022 clean shaven!  More importantly, we were able to collect over 470 pounds of food to donate and we couldn't be happier to help our community!

Curds for Christmas

Though we are known for our Blue cheese, we bet you didn’t know Francisco and Rueben are also masters at making squeaky curds.  These delicious curds were a staple at our Cheese Cave shop in Faribault and sadly haven’t been made since it closed.  Employees have been missing these curds lately, so as a Christmas present to the team, Francisco and Rueben made curds for everyone to bring home for their holiday!  What would a holiday celebration be without curds?!

Crafting Something Besides Cheese

Even though the holidays are our busiest time of year, we still find the time to get creative in the plant and decorate!  Led by the CFC, our team decorated the break room with snowflakes to show that even though every one of our snowflakes are unique, we are part of something bigger.  Our differences are what makes the Caves of Faribault team so great!

Francisco’s box is the clear winner in this contest to collect food for a local food bank.

Over 470 pounds of food were donated to the Community Action Center of Faribault’s Free Food Market.

A bag of coal? No, a bag of curds.

Our employees are as unique and special as these snowflakes.
